Brief Description

Content around how school leaders facilitate and support teacher professional development, the development of teachers as leaders; how to develop and support the focus on the instructional program in schools.

 

Rationale for inclusion in the Taxonomy

Motivated, empathetic and competent teachers and students are at the core of a good school. For school leaders it is essential to understand what serve as role models and help create all the conditions in schools that lead to effective professional development of teachers and all-round development of students in the school. This may include developing PLCs in schools, or working with external teacher training institutes to help develop teacher capacity or forming student parliament and distributing various responsibilities among students. Leaders also need to understand the importance of distributed leadership in schools and how such collaborative, participatory forms of leadership can be developed among teachers and students in schools.
